                                                                                      History of SPHI

Sidama Public health institute Establishment

The Sidama Public Health Institute(EPHI) is established by the council of Sidama National Regional State regulation Proclamation  No. 11/2013 which recognize the Institute an autonomous Regional government office having its own legal personality. The institute is accountable for the Regional Health Bureau. Has responsible to undertake the following Major activities

  • To undertake research on regional priority health problems,
  • To establish establishing strong and effective public health emergency management system through robust early warning, Preparedness and recovery from various public health emergencies throughout the region.
  • Enhance the institute’s laboratories with skilled personnel and advanced technology.
  • Enhance the institute’s laboratories with skilled personnel and advanced technology.
  • Establish a centralized system for collecting, archiving, and managing health-related data, enabling evidence-based decision-making and informing public health policies and programs.

The Sidama Public Health Institute   has 131 permanent staff members and 27 contracted staff members working in  research, PHEM , laboratory and health Data  management and analytic center for health.

Prevent and control public health risks through surveys, preparation, prevention, warning, and information dissemination.

Establish a centralized system for collecting, archiving, and managing health-related data, enabling evidence-based decision-making and informing public health policies and programs.
